February is romance month....and this week's book review falls solidly into that genre. Susan Wiggs writes romance novels that are deeply engrossing and very hard to put down. Her earlier works were historical romances but with this series she moves into modern times, Wigg's plots are engaging, her characters realistic and the romance while at times steamy is not "over the top" "Summer at Willow Lake" begins the story of a family and a setting that draws you in and makes you want to be part of both the family and a resident of the town. In this first book, the plot centers around the Bellamy family. In subsequent plots, different characters from the setting of the book, Avalon, NY on Willow Lake are featured. Wigg's plot are clean and center directly around the lives of the characters she develops so skillfully. In the first book, Olivia Bellamy is renovating the family's Catskills camp for her grandparents' 50th anniversary. Enter Connor Davis, a contractor hired to work on the renovation. He doesn't recognize Olivia as the girl whose heart he broke at that very same camp years ago. Olivia's appearance has changed from the awkward years she spent at camp. But Olivia knows who he is and old feelings are rekindled. Now the tables are turned though and while Connor is a successful contractor in his own right he is intimidated not only by the wealthy Bellamy family but by this new, beautiful Olivia. As feelings intensify between these two headstrong characters, you will find yourself reluctant to put this book down. Finishing it leaves you ready to move right into the next book about this special place.
